Jeff,Jenny and Zoila-Oh my!

I will absolutely be flipping hanging out with the crew tonight! I mean-wine, and my best shrimp dish- hanging out. Only they will be on TV and I will be in my apartment....a girl can dream....

All jokes aside, I absolutely will be tuning in to Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis tonight on Bravo (9/8c). This crew has never let me down in terms of laughs and I can't wait to tune in. Feel free to drop by (turn to Bravo) if you are in the area! You will not regret it!

To promote the show they sent a team of AMAZING cabs out in NYC offering free rides. I love the concept and WISH I would have been able to take a ride. My favorite was the Moroccan cab.

Okay so I completely made up the heading. Don't bother trying to translate. It's a mix of my sorry attempt at Italian and the text from a Fancy Nancy book.

Speaking of Fancy little girls, My daughter's birthday just passed and so we are in the process of redoing her room. She is currently still using her toddler daybed (crib without one side) so it is well overdue. One of the things I surprised her with is a lighting fixture with as much flare as her. I found the craft on various sites but nothing quite like what I wanted to create. I wanted to create a DIY Chandelier. I ended up using artificial flower petals from the Dollar Tree, A wire planter that I had laying around (tired of the neighborhood kids flipping over my inpatients!), needle, thread and eventually a hot glue gun.

I apologize for the poor pictures....really have to fix my digital camera...or upgrade my phone.

1. I started with the wire hanging basket and added a middle layer of ribbon to be able to attach the middle layer of cascading flower petals. One recommendation I suggest if you attempt this craft is to start with a basket close in color to your petals. Black basket and white flowers...not a good idea...but I was too excited to want to paint and wait for it to dry!

2. The next step is to organize your flowers by how you want to arrange them. I started with bouquets of flowers so I had to remove the petals from the stem and cut them into individuals. It doesn't take long at all.

3. Next start with your top row. I initially started by folding the petals over the top of the basket (open side) and SEWING them on. Yes it will be secure but my goodness it takes forever!

4. After my top row is done I hot glued the petals in a cascade formation. Think of them being like the monkeys in a barrel of monkeys game. They are only close enough to hold on to each other. For me each cascade was 6-7 petals long (including boarder).

5. I did the same with the second and third layers. My first layer was white, second was light pink (and attached to ribbon) and third was hot pink. In the end I attached a few clear beads I had laying around for kicks. May remove them since I'm not crazy about them.

Hola Ombre!

I think nail art is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to express yourself. I really love being able to change up my nail paint. For less than $5 (if you like Wet and Wild like I do), you can treat yourself to a manicure that is all you. Below are some of my recent favorites. One I would really like to talk about is the Ombre nail. This is a really fun thing to try. The next time you go on a polish run, litterly grab every color in the color set. In the store they are usually organized in shades anyway. Have fun with it. I am currently sporting Wet and Wild's "Wild Shine" colection in:

It's pretty spring like (pretty much commiting a fashion faux pas, I'm sure) but just the lift I need in the winter!

Micro mini offices

Often times in apartments, space is an issue. Office space is no different. Simetimes you are lucky to find a place with enough livng space to seperate your task corner from it all....and other times you end up with a huge L shaped executive style desk in your bedroom! (uggh. That thing HAS to go!). I have been toying with the idea of setting up a great place to work that can be easily tucked away. Here are a few of my favorites!

I have a pretty spacious closet that has unused space in my living room. Down side of it is that it is unused because of it's odd shape. Its under a set of stairs. Large enough to put a desk and chair in I assume! Possibly with a few items from ikea (A true German girl- love Ikea).

I will let you know how it turns out!

Beautifying temporary living spaces

I know home ownership is the "American Dream" but I have to tell you I LOVE renting! Nothing like knowing there is a blizzard on the way and you don't have to shovel. Am I right?!  However, just like Sir Newton stated, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Yeah, it's great to know that busted water heater will not come out of your pocket but- my goodness- unpaintable white walls feel "assylum-like"! My goal is share some ideas I have run accross to help warm up those stark walls WITHOUT signing away your security deposit.

Over at Ispydiy.com, Jenni has come up with a great way to share instant photos with minimal damage. Using black ribbon, thumbtacks, clothespins, and her Fujifilm Instax210, She has transformed a simple wall to a mini art gallary! Genious! (wish I had thought of that)

Fashion convert

As I have said before, I have an eclectic choice of activities and ideas so hang on and get ready for this one.

One thing I am taking a strong liking to recently is Hijab inspired fashion. I believe personally that the world has become openly and overly sexualized. You can see all that is meant for your mate on someone walking down the street on a regular basis. There are no more secrets it seems.

Hijab is given the meaning of modesty, privacy, and morality (and is also used to refer to the actual headdress often- I'm talking about just the fashion). I have held these beliefs for a while. The cherry on the top came when I stubbled upon www.hijabiestyle.com. This site shows so many options I just can't wait to start trying some. I LOVE this site as well as the modesty it promotes. While I do not see myself converting religions (or wearing the Khimar as that is a sacred item that I wouldn't dare to cheapen by immitating. Respect comes before fashion at all times) I do hope to see more young ladies convert their wardrobes to reflect the elegance and modesty shown here.

new adventures

As the old saying goes, This chopped board joins with the poke under the concluded fountain...confused? Me too, but that's how life can be sometimes. I have noticed that there are certain situations that teach me lessons that I don't value until later in life. I'm sure one day that quote will mean something to me....then again maybe it's just gibberish. Have a great weekend all!
